alright, here’s the deal: navy pier is the shizz. it doesn’t matter if you are only in chicago for the day and have your heart set on seeing the big sights (millennium park, willis tower, mag mile, etc.), or if you are a native chicagoan and detest the thought of walking around any place that might be construed as “tourist.” go to navy pier. right now. grab whoever happens to be closest to you at this very moment, bring a few bucks for a tasty treat (or don’t! walking around and seeing a lot of the stuff doesn’t cost a dime) and you will have a truly great time.

we say this, because we went to navy pier for the engagement session of the very awesome jen&frank. now, we have been there before (both to shoot sessions and for the heck of it), but we have never really taken it all in and really appreciated the charm of the place the way we did this trip. there are so many great places to shoot, we both feel like we could have kept going for hours. jen&frank looked fantastic, were up for anything, and were so fun together. the place can be so incredibly romantic that it makes taking photos there a dream. imagine this: jen&frank walking hand and hand down the crowded pier through the sounds of jugglers performing and families laughing. The smells of churros, cinnamon-roasted nuts, and gourmet popcorn are in the air - the stunning chicago skyline is twinkling in the background. are you kidding me?! we have the best job ever.

P.S. one of our good friends matt is going to be sailing a tallship he crews, the europa, into navy pier for five days of festivities starting 8/24. matt is one heck of a photographer, and has been voyaging from peru through the panama canal, up the eastern seaboard, and through the great lakes to get to chicago. we can’t wait to see his new stuff!

mandy&jimmy|engaged

talk about feeling loved! we actually knew mandy and jimmy were getting engaged before mandy did! mandy is sarah&tom’s niece, and was even in their wedding party. just a few days after their wedding, we got an email from mandy’s mom, patty, saying “she doesn’t know it yet, but she’s getting engaged this weekend.” we’re so glad they got in contact with us and incredibly flattered that they chose us for their photographers!

these two are completely adorable together, and without sounding too much like a hallmark greeting card - their love literally oozes out around them. thanks to mandy and jimmy for traipsing around mchenry and looking cute for us! can’t wait til next may!

are we lucky or what? just when we think our clients couldn’t get any cuter, any more stylish, any more lovin-all-over-each-other… we get to shoot lindsey&greg. we started our session at the fourth presbyterian church in downtown chicago. the architecture of the church itself is awesome, and there is this amazing little cloister right off of michigan ave. the ivy-covered stone walls, stained glass, and yummy (yes, yummy) light were all screaming “best spot for photos ever!” it also happens to be where greg asked lindsey to marry him. well played greg, well played.

from there we hit up such other awesome chicago photo locations as oak street beach, lincoln park, and our super-secret hidden grove of paradise.

lindsey&greg, you spoil us. don’t believe me? see below.

meg&dan|engaged

there’s two things that tony loves in this world more than anything. and that is comic books. and zombies. so you could pretty much say that it was fate that led the two of us to meet with meg&dan. as we were getting to know these two at our first meeting, we asked dan what his job was and he said these fateful words “i’m a comic book illustrator.” tony lit up like a 5 year old in a candy store.

“what kind of comic books do you illustrate?” tony asks.

“well, it’s about cowboys… and zombies.”

i kid you not - tony’s head almost exploded. as it so happens, dan is the illustrator for the series rotten (you can pre-order the trade book with the first 6 issues here! it’s out on august 10). he also has an online comic strip called beardo which is based on his life. it’s hilarious really. oh and did we mention he’s in a band? it’s called workhorse kings. you might want to check them out too. :P

phew - now that we got all that out. meg&dan are one of the most adorable couples of all time. we’re super excited about their wedding. mainly because we heard there might be a magician involved… i mean seriously - HOW COOL IS THAT?! we had a great time at their engagement session. meg even called in a favor to her uncle sim, so we got to shoot in and around engine 22 in lincoln park. (he even gave us a tour and showed us a bunch of really cool stuff about toxic chemicals. again, tony was in heaven.) so a big thanks to uncle sim!!

and without further ado, here’s a few photos. ;)
