we had ashley&steve’s engagement session at one of the most unexpected of locations! most people wouldn’t consider a cemetery for a session location, but graceland cemetery in chicago is probably one of the most beautiful and historic locations we’ve ever shot at. when ashley&steve suggested it, we jumped at the chance to do something totally out of the box. and boy, we weren’t disappointed!

we got there bright and early at 8 am, and everything just fell into place. the sunlight was absolutely magical, and ashley&steve are basically supermodels. have i mentioned lately that we have the best jobs in the world? so instead of rambling on and on about the awesomeness of the session, how about you just take a look and i’ll shut up. k? k!

a few weeks ago we made the long trek down the state of illinois to st. louis to shoot jen&matt’s engagement session. when we first talked with jen about the session, she was super excited to have a picnic in the park. we were all over that idea, because we love themes! unfortunately, the first date we picked got rained out. so we made the decision to reschedule and try again a few weeks later. surely we couldn’t get rained out twice!

we arrived in st. louis to find some very gloomy clouds lurking the day before the session, but they cleared in the later afternoon. we were pretty excited to have our picnic the next day. so of course, we wake up the day of the session to find it POURING outside. tony and i immediately swung into back up plan mode and began scouting the area around lafayette square for some options that provided some cover!

that’s when we hit the jackpot! the awesome guys from park avenue coffee, home of the gooey butter cake, told us “sure you can shoot here!” we were pretty excited to have secured such an awesome indoor location for the session. and wouldn’t you know it - about 5 minutes after jen&matt showed up, the rain miraculously stopped! sure, it was still a little too wet out to pull off a picnic, but thanks to park avenue coffee, the looking glass, and bailey’s chocolate bar, we had a phenomenal session!

oh my goodness. so who would have thought with all our gooooorgeous april weather that may would be so flipping cold?! when we got down to ottawa, illinois (not to be confused with ottawa, canada) for alicia&curt’s wedding, the sky was a foreboding shade of gray and the temperature was hovering just around 50 degrees. fortunately the rain held out and alicia and curt and their bridal party braved the cold to get some awesome stuff.

alicia and curt decided to do a first look before their ceremony which we cannot recommend enough! we had a full hour and a half to walk around downtown ottawa and take photos. and it turned out wonderfully. we can’t say enough about how much fun this bridal party was. they were up for anything and really just went with the flow. really - it’s our kind of crowd!

to alicia&curt - you guys were a blast to hang out with! you make a gorgeous couple and we wish you a lifetime of happiness.
